Garden Studio
A writer's retreat hidden within a walled garden
Tucked into the corner of a Georgian walled garden in Hampstead, this small but perfectly formed studio provides a sanctuary for focused creative work. The brief was deceptively simple: a single room of extraordinary quality, connected to the garden while sheltered from distraction.
The structure is built entirely from sustainably sourced Douglas fir, left unfinished internally to develop a warm patina over time. A single large opening frames a carefully composed view of a mature magnolia, while clerestory windows wash the workspace in even, north light. The building sits on minimal foundations to preserve root systems of surrounding trees.
