Margate Gallery
Former cinema restored as a contemporary art space
The former Dreamland Cinema sat empty for over a decade before we were commissioned to reimagine it as a contemporary art gallery. The design preserves the sweeping Art Deco plasterwork of the original auditorium ceiling while stripping the interior back to create a series of flexible, museum-quality exhibition spaces.
A new concrete mezzanine inserted beneath the balcony creates an intimate project space, while the main hall can accommodate large-scale installations. The original projection booth has been converted into a residency studio with views over Margate Sands.
