East London Loft
A raw, open-plan conversion for a photographer
This penthouse conversion in a former textile warehouse was designed for a fashion photographer who needed a space that could shift between domestic comfort and professional studio. The entire floor plate was opened up, with a single freestanding volume containing the bathroom and darkroom acting as the only dividing element.
All surfaces were stripped back to their original state: brick walls were cleaned but left unpointed, concrete ceilings were exposed, and original steel roof trusses were shot-blasted and left raw. Against this industrial backdrop, moments of warmth are introduced through the Douglas fir kitchen island and a sunken living area lined in pale wool felt.
