Cliff House
A cantilevered retreat on the Dorset coast
Cliff House emerges from the rugged Dorset coastline as a series of interlocking volumes clad in weathered zinc and local Purbeck stone. The main living space cantilevers eight metres over the cliff edge, creating a suspended viewing platform that brings the horizon into the heart of the home.
The material palette draws directly from the surrounding geology — rough-hewn limestone walls transition into polished concrete floors, while full-height glazing dissolves the boundary between interior and the dramatic seascape beyond. A planted green roof helps the structure recede into the hillside when viewed from above.
